Kodagu beckons as enchanting waterfalls spring to life

A magnificent waterfall in Coorg, Iruppu Falls also has religious connotations amongst places to visit in Coorg. The cascade is located in the Brahmagiri hill range. As per the Hindus, Lord Rama and his brother Lakshmana passed by this region. They were in search for Lord Rama’s wife Sita. Lord Rama was thirsty and was looking for water. Lakshamana shot an arrow that struck the ground and oozed the river water. Hence, this river was discovered. It is this river that creates the Iruppu Falls by descending down a 60 metre slope.

The otherwise silent forest is pleasantly noisy given the beautiful resonating sound that the gushing waters make. Amidst the lush and verdant forest, the majestic waterfalls seem the only busy place in this part of the world.

You can hear the sonorous sounds of water hitting the ground kilometres away. Also known as Lakshmana Teertha, there is a temple named Rameshwara Temple close by. You have to visit this place during Shivaratri. Accompanying you will be hundreds of pilgrims from all parts of the country offering their prayers at the temple.

Iruppu Falls are sacred. It is believed that taking a dip in the waters here cleanses ones sins. This belief is very prominent in many pilgrims who take a dip here every year. The fact that the legendary Lord Rama passed through this region is one of the reasons.
